Oral Conscious Sedation

What is Oral Conscious Sedation?

Advanced Dental Care of Jasper, Texas, reduces your dental fear or phobia by offering oral conscious sedation. Even though other methods of sedation are available, Dr. Koch prefers oral sedation because it is easy to administer, it is safe and easily monitored, it works well for most patients, and its low pricing is cost effective. Therefore, if you want to receive your necessary dental work, yet you are still uneasy about coming to our office, Dr. Koch will recommend an option that is as simple as swallowing a pill: oral conscious sedation.

Following laughing gas, oral conscious sedation dentistry is now the second most recommended dental sedation technique used in the United States. Oral sedation is easy and does not require injections. Reports indicate that the most impressive result of oral conscious sedation is the medications create an experience so peaceful that you probably will not even remember the visit. It is as if you slept right through the treatment – not such a bad solution for an anxiety-ridden event, but the reality is you remain in a level of awareness that allows you to respond to Dr. Koch's directions for your safety and required cooperation.

Oral Conscious Sedation and Its Affects

To begin your oral conscious sedation, Dr. Koch prescribes a small pill for you to take an hour prior to your dental appointment. The pill will put you in a relaxed state; therefore, you must ask someone to drive you to our office. You will start to become drowsy, and upon arrival at our office, our caring staff member will lead a relaxed you to the room for your dental work.

As the effects of the oral sedation increase and you are comfortable, Dr. Koch or one of his hygienists takes care of your dental treatments. After your dental work is completed, your companion can take you home to rest and enjoy the remaining calming affects of oral conscious sedation.

Oral conscious sedation usually only remains in your body for two to three hours and you will be back to your normal self thereafter; however, as in many cases with the use of sedatives, you want to make sure someone is with you and monitor you for 24 hours at home for safety purposes.
